Utah Technology Industry Council

The Utah Technology Industry Council (UTIC) is an appendage to the Utah Technology Commission (UTC) and was created by Senate Bill 151 during the 2003 Utah Legislative Session. UTC has oversight over Utah's technology landscape as a whole and its membership is comprised of legislators, representatives from the executive and judicial branches, as well as public and higher education.

UTIC's membership is comprised mainly of technology industry representatives in the key areas of Aerospace, Information Technology and Life Sciences/Medical Devices. Its main purpose is to act as a policy advisory body for the legislature.

The objective of UTIC is to create, retain, expand and attract technology industry businesses in the state. UTIC 's responsibilities include:

  • conducting research and performing studies of best practices in the private and public sectors that could foster technology business growth in the state
  • preparing assessments of the status of technology industries in the state including needs and opportunities
  • developing a technology strategic plan for the state addressing the future of technology-based business and their future economic value to the state and the impact on the quality of life of Utah's citizens
  • studying other issues as directed by the Utah Technology Commission
